The same people run the forms and finish the pour, so there is no middleman passing paperwork around. We handle the job from subgrade prep to the final joint cut.

Who does the work on your pour

A concrete contractor is the outfit that sets the forms, places the concrete, and finishes it. We do all three ourselves. Decisions about the pour get made on your lot by the people holding the tools.

The size of a company or the brand on the cement truck does not hold a slab up. The base, the reinforcement, the joints, and the finishing do. That is where we put our attention.

For the hands-on side, see concrete driveway installation. Want a concrete contractor in Lakeland? Our home page covers it.

What flatwork costs

A new slab prices between $3.50 and $16 a square foot, and a driveway between $7 and $18. The finish you pick, the condition of the ground, and the amount of rebar reinforcement in the slab move your job up or down within those spreads.

Describe the job by phone and we will talk through the usual spread for that kind of pour. The firm figure comes after we walk the lot and see the ground.

Lakeland ground, water, and weather

Soil varies from lot to lot here, and that changes how we prep. On lots with Myakka fine sand, seasonal high water can rise close to the surface and internal drainage is slow. We check site conditions before excavation or a pour, then set the slope so water leaves the slab instead of sitting under it.

Rain is the bigger planning issue. Parts of Lakeland took more than a foot of rain in a single day during Hurricane Milton in 2024, so we grade and plan drainage for heavy runoff. Lakeland winters add up to only 433 heating degree days (base 65 °F), so cold rarely moves a pour date. Heat and rain are what we schedule around.

How a pour goes, start to finish

After the concrete is placed, we screed it, then run a bull-float to remove high and low spots and push the coarse aggregate down into the mix. Once the surface moisture sheen disappears, we float the concrete. From there we steel-trowel it for a smooth finish or broom it for texture.

Rebar reinforcement goes into the slab to carry tension. We tool or sawcut contraction joints to control cracking. On a 4-inch driveway slab, those joints are spaced no more than 10 feet apart and cut to about one-quarter of the slab thickness.

To get a number for your job, send us the address, a rough square footage, and what you see on the ground.
